Heiligdom

As part of the exhibition Heilige Huisjes in the Mennonite church of Utrecht, organised by Utrecht Down Under, FAAM Utrecht and Kunstliefde, I made an installation called Heiligdom.

The exhibition revolved around sacred cows such as religion, science and consumerism. In my work I wanted to explore the relationship between consumerism and religion, and how some people nowadays tend to cherry-pick their own religion. I made a collection of objects that looked like they could belong to a religion but were in fact completely devoid of meaning. I invited the visitors to perform playful rituals with these objects, to see if they could be as meaningful as using 'real' religious objects.
